Some wedding days are meticulously sunny. Others throw a little chaos into the mix. And then there are days like Kricket and Jesse’s Flaxton Gardens wedding — a perfect blend of emotion, spontaneity, misty mountain vibes and a golden hour that arrived like it had been scheduled months in advance.

Set in the stunning Flaxton Gardens, their wedding day had everything that makes a Sunshine Coast hinterland wedding unforgettable: rolling mountain views, a tight-knit bridal party, happy tears, and a dance floor that absolutely understood the assignment.

As a Sunshine Coast wedding photographer, days like this are exactly why I love capturing weddings in the hinterland — because no matter what the weather decides to do, the magic always finds its way through.

Groom Prep in the Misty Mountains

The morning started in nearby Maleny, where Jesse and his groomsmen were getting ready at a cosy Airbnb surrounded by the lush hinterland.

Normally, this location boasts sweeping views of the Glass House Mountains, but on this particular morning the mountains decided to play hide and seek behind a thick blanket of fog. Honestly? It was a vibe.

The mist created a calm, cinematic atmosphere as the boys shared laughs, cracked open a few pre-ceremony beers, and gave Jesse the kind of supportive pep talks only lifelong mates can deliver.

With four groomsmen by his side, Jesse suited up, adjusted his tie about seventeen times (as all grooms do), and got ready to marry the love of his life.

Bridal Beauty at Flaxton Gardens

Meanwhile, over at Flaxton Gardens, Kricket and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the venue’s beautiful bridal suite — one of the many reasons couples love choosing this Sunshine Coast wedding venue.

Having everything on-site makes the day flow effortlessly, and the energy in the room was the perfect mix of excitement, nerves and lots of laughter.

Kricket looked absolutely radiant after being glammed by the talented Marlies Venter, while the bridesmaids helped with final touches, dresses and a few deep breaths before the ceremony.

One of the most emotional moments of the morning was Kricket’s first look with her dad — cue instant tears from half the room. This was followed by a beautiful first reveal with her bridesmaids, who were equally emotional (and very ready for the celebrations to begin).

The love in that bridal suite was undeniable.

A Ceremony Made Just for Them

With the earlier rain leaving the garden a little muddy, Kricket and Jesse decided to hold their ceremony indoors — and honestly, it turned out to be perfect.

The ceremony space at Flaxton Gardens creates such an intimate atmosphere, and with heartfelt words from celebrant Stacey Morris, the entire room felt connected to every moment.

Because of the indoor lighting conditions, we made the creative decision to photograph the ceremony from the back of the room.

What could have been a challenge actually became something really special.

This angle allowed us to capture the raw reactions of the guests during the vows and first kiss — smiling faces, emotional tears, and the proud looks from friends and family witnessing the moment these two officially became husband and wife.

And honestly? Those candid reactions are some of the most powerful images from the entire day.

Golden Hour Portraits in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Just when everyone thought the rain might stick around for the rest of the afternoon… the sun made a dramatic entrance.

And if you’ve ever photographed a Sunshine Coast hinterland wedding, you know that golden hour in the mountains hits differently.

Within minutes, the gardens lit up with warm sunlight and we headed outside to capture portraits with Kricket, Jesse and their bridal party.

The bridal party brought the energy (and a fair bit of chaos in the best way possible), while Kricket and Jesse soaked up those newly-married moments together overlooking the stunning hinterland views.

The golden light, the fresh mountain air, and the excitement from the ceremony created the kind of portraits couples dream about.

Reception Party Mode Activated

If there’s one thing that was clear about Kricket and Jesse’s guests — they came ready to celebrate.

The reception kicked off with a hilarious and heartfelt introduction from their MC (a close friend who clearly understood the assignment). The speeches brought equal parts laughter and tears, and the cake cutting by The Sweet Things Cakes was almost too pretty to cut.

Almost.

As soon as the formalities wrapped up, the dance floor opened and the energy instantly shifted into full party mode, thanks to live music from Jerome Williams.

Hands in the air. Shoes coming off. Champagne flowing.

Exactly how a wedding reception should be.

We wrapped the evening with some fun champagne spray photos and romantic night portraits under the stars — the perfect ending to a day that had everything.
