Allana & Tom's Walkabout Creek Elopement

Some couples dream of three hundred guests, a twelve-piece band and a dress with a train so long it needs its own security detail. Allana & Tom dreamt of something else entirely — just the two of them, their favourite people, and a creek. As a Brisbane elopement photographer, days like this are exactly why I fell in love with weddings in the first place. No fuss, no five-hour reception timeline, just pure, undiluted love story.

Allana & Tom said "I do" at Walkabout Creek in Brisbane, a venue that somehow manages to feel like a secret hideaway ten minutes from the city. Bushland, a winding creek, dappled light through the trees — it's basically nature's own wedding chapel, and it did all the heavy lifting for us on the styling front. ☀️

And can we talk about the entrance? Because it might be my new favourite thing I've ever photographed. Allana came around the corner, spotted Tom waiting for her, and instead of the usual slow, composed bridal walk — she waved. Just a big, delighted, "hi, it's you, we're doing this!" wave, like she'd spotted her best friend across a crowded room rather than the man she was about to marry. Tom's face in that moment was priceless — equal parts overwhelmed and obsessed. Then, instead of her being walked down the aisle, the two of them walked to their celebrant hand in hand, together, as equals starting the same adventure. It undid me a little bit, if I'm honest. 🥹

That's the thing about elopements — they strip a wedding day back to the only part that ever really mattered. As one of my favourite quotes about eloping puts it: "Elopements aren't about having a smaller wedding. They're about having a bigger love story." Allana & Tom's day was proof of exactly that. No five hundred guests to please, no seating chart negotiations — just the people who matter most, standing in a circle around two people making the biggest promise of their lives.

Their circle was small but mighty — a handful of nearest and dearest, gathered under the trees, laughing, crying, and cheering the second they were pronounced married. There's something about an intimate crowd that changes the whole energy of a wedding day. You can hear every sniffle. You can see every proud-parent grin. Nobody's checking their phone during the vows because there's nowhere to hide and nothing else going on — just two people, telling the truth, out loud, to each other. 💛

Their ceremony was led by the wonderful Nuala Quigley, a celebrant who has an absolute gift for making an intimate ceremony feel just as rich and meaningful as one with hundreds of guests watching on. Her words wove Allana & Tom's story together beautifully, and by the time she pronounced them married, there genuinely wasn't a dry eye among the six of us standing there.

The styling — soft, natural, and exactly right for the setting — came courtesy of Beautiful Weddings, who clearly understand that sometimes the best styling is the kind that lets a gorgeous location do most of the talking, with just enough polish to make it feel like a wedding rather than a very nice bushwalk.

And speaking of the location — Walkabout Creek genuinely spoiled us for photo opportunities. Creek-side clearings, dappled forest light, quiet little nooks that felt like they'd been designed specifically for two people who wanted to sneak off for a moment alone (we absolutely used every single one of them). We chased the light through the trees, found every good angle the creek had to offer, and got a little too enthusiastic with the couple portraits — but honestly, when the light and the love are both that good, who could blame me? 📸

By the time we wrapped up, Allana & Tom were married, their favourite people were teary and grinning, and I was already thinking about how badly I wanted to write this blog post. Elopements like this are a reminder that a wedding day was never really about the guest list length or the dance floor — it's about turning up, saying the big words, and meaning every single one of them.
