Penny & Gareth’s Marina Mooloolaba Wedding | A Waterfront Sunshine Coast Wedding

Penny and Gareth wedding portraits at Marina Mooloolaba Sunshine Coast

“The best kind of love feels like coming home, no matter where you are.”

There is something pretty special about a wedding by the water. The sunshine, the salty breeze, the boats bobbing away in the background and that relaxed coastal atmosphere that makes you feel like you're on a little holiday.

And honestly? What better place to celebrate marrying your favourite human?

On the 9th of October 2026, Penny and Gareth tied the knot at the gorgeous Marina Mooloolaba, formerly known as Pier 33, right in the heart of Mooloolaba on Queensland's beautiful Sunshine Coast.

Their day was full of everything I love about being a Sunshine Coast wedding photographer. Genuine emotions, wonderful people, a few unexpected changes to our photography plans and plenty of moments that deserved to be remembered forever.

Plus, we finished with a nighttime champagne pop. And if you've been following Angela Brushe Photography for a while, you'll know I am absolutely not saying no to one of those.

But first, let's rewind to the beginning.

Getting Ready in Mooloolaba – Classic Black Tuxedos and a Borrowed Wedding Dress

One of the things I loved about Penny and Gareth's wedding was how beautifully everything came together without needing to be overcomplicated.

Both got ready at separate locations around Mooloolaba, conveniently close to their waterfront wedding venue.

Gareth – Keeping It Classic

We started with Gareth, who was looking incredibly sharp in a classic tuxedo from Black Jacket Suiting.

There is just something about a black tuxedo that never goes out of style. It's timeless, elegant and always looks incredible in wedding photographs.

Sometimes you really don't need to reinvent the wheel. A well-fitted suit, a groom about to marry the love of his life and a little bit of excitement before the ceremony? That's already a pretty great start.

Penny – The Dress That Was Meant to Be

Meanwhile, Penny was getting ready for her big moment.

Her hair and makeup were beautifully taken care of by Sami from Evalyn Parsons and Kate Ellen Makeup Artistry.

And can we please talk about Penny's wedding dress?

Because this is one of my favourite little details from their entire day.

Penny actually borrowed her wedding dress from a friend!

And I kid you not, it looked like it had been made specifically for her.

Seriously, what are the chances?

There's something really lovely about a wedding dress having its own little story before becoming part of someone else's big day. Not only did it look absolutely beautiful on Penny, but it also carried that extra bit of sentiment.

Proof that you don't need to spend an absolute fortune to look like a million dollars on your wedding day.

The beautiful florals from Woods Goods Flower Farm were another gorgeous addition, bringing everything together perfectly.

A First Look With Mum and Dad – Cue the Happy Tears

Before heading off to the ceremony, Penny shared a first look with her mum and dad.

And honestly, these are the moments that get me.

There is something so incredibly special about parents seeing their child all dressed up and ready to get married.

One minute you're helping them get ready for school, and what feels like five minutes later, you're watching them prepare to walk down the aisle.

It's a lot.

Penny's first look with her parents was such a beautiful little moment to capture, and exactly the kind of memory I love preserving.

“A wedding day isn't just about two people falling in love. It's also about every person who helped them become who they are.”

As a wedding photographer, I always encourage couples to make room in their timeline for these moments. They don't need to be elaborate or staged. Sometimes it's simply opening a door and letting the emotions do their thing.

Those are the photographs that often mean even more as the years go by.

A Beautiful Marina Mooloolaba Wedding Ceremony

With everyone ready, it was time to head over to Marina Mooloolaba for the main event.

And what a gorgeous day we had for it!

The weather was beautiful, the waterfront setting was looking incredible and Penny and Gareth were surrounded by their nearest and dearest.

One of the things that made their ceremony particularly special was their celebrant, Lacey Waller from Wed by Waller.

Lacey is actually one of Gareth's work friends and was just beginning her journey into becoming a wedding celebrant.

And she did such an excellent job!

There is something extra meaningful about having someone who already knows you personally standing up there and helping you marry your favourite person.

It adds another layer of familiarity and connection to the ceremony, which I absolutely love.

With the beautiful Mooloolaba marina as their backdrop, Penny and Gareth exchanged their vows and officially became married.

Surrounded by their favourite people, in a beautiful location, on a gorgeous Sunshine Coast day.

Does it get much better?

“Finding your person is wonderful. Getting to choose them, every single day, is where the real magic begins.”

And just like that, the celebrations were officially underway!

Wedding Photography at Marina Mooloolaba – A Little Wind Never Hurt Anyone... Right?

After the ceremony, it was time for one of my favourite parts of any wedding day.

Couple portraits!

Now, one of the reasons Marina Mooloolaba is such a fantastic wedding venue on the Sunshine Coast is the variety of beautiful photography locations available nearby.

You've got the marina, the waterfront, beautiful open grassy areas and, of course, Mooloolaba Beach just a short distance away.

Which means plenty of opportunities for gorgeous wedding photographs without spending your entire afternoon travelling between locations.

We started with some lovely portraits around the marina and the grassy area beside the venue.

The light was beautiful, the atmosphere was relaxed and Penny and Gareth were just enjoying those first little moments together as a married couple.

Then we thought we'd venture over towards Mooloolaba Beach for a few extra photographs.

And well...

The wind had other ideas. HAHA.

Because apparently, the beach wasn't particularly interested in cooperating with our photography plans that afternoon.

But here's the thing about wedding photography.

Sometimes the plan changes.

And that's completely fine.

Rather than forcing photographs in conditions that weren't ideal, we pivoted and headed back towards the marina, where we could make the most of the beautiful surroundings.

And you know what? The photographs were still gorgeous.

One of the biggest things I've learnt over my years as a Sunshine Coast wedding photographer is that being flexible is just as important as knowing how to use your camera.

You can plan every little detail of a wedding day, but Mother Nature is not reading your run sheet.

Sometimes you just have to laugh, change direction and keep making magic.

And that is exactly what we did.

A Waterfront Wedding Reception Full of Love, Laughter and Dancing

After our little photography adventure, it was time to head back to Marina Mooloolaba for the reception celebrations.

And this is where the day really shifted into party mode.

There is something so lovely about that part of a wedding when all the formalities start to wrap up and everyone can just relax, celebrate and enjoy being together.

Penny and Gareth's reception was full of those beautiful little moments that make wedding days so memorable.

We had speeches, their first dance and, of course, plenty of celebrating.

Speeches are always one of my favourite parts of a wedding reception to photograph.

Because you get everything.

The laughter.

The proud smiles.

The occasional happy tears.

And those little reactions from people who might not even realise they're being photographed.

Sometimes the best photograph from a speech isn't actually of the person speaking. It's of the people listening.

Those are the moments that tell the story.

And once the formalities were done, it was time for everyone to enjoy themselves, with Dale from The Famos & Coproviding the entertainment.

A good wedding celebration really is about having all your favourite people together in one place.

Because when you think about it, how often does that actually happen?

“Years from now, you might forget what the table decorations looked like. But you'll remember how it felt to have everyone you love celebrating in the same room.”

And that is why I love photographing weddings so much.

Ending the Night With a Champagne Pop – An ABP Favourite!

Now, if there is one thing I am always going to be excited about, it's a nighttime champagne pop.

Is it slightly chaotic? Sometimes.

Is there a chance of champagne going absolutely everywhere? Absolutely.

Do I love it? Every. Single. Time.

And Penny and Gareth's wedding was no exception.

We finished off their celebrations with a nighttime champagne pop, which is always such a fun way to end a wedding gallery.

There is something about the combination of darkness, flash photography, flying champagne and two newlyweds having the absolute time of their lives that just works.

It's fun, it's spontaneous and it creates such a different look from those beautiful, romantic daytime portraits.

I love being able to give couples a gallery that has a little bit of everything.

The sentimental moments.

The classic portraits.

The candid laughter.

And the slightly chaotic moments where everyone is just having the best time.

Because that's what a wedding day really is.

Not just a collection of perfectly posed photographs, but a whole story of people, emotions and memories.

And that champagne pop was the perfect final chapter to Penny and Gareth's day.

Why Marina Mooloolaba Is Such a Gorgeous Sunshine Coast Wedding Venue

If you're currently planning a Mooloolaba wedding and looking for a waterfront wedding venue, Marina Mooloolaba is definitely worth considering.

Formerly known as Pier 33, this beautiful venue is located right beside the marina, offering that relaxed Sunshine Coast coastal atmosphere without sacrificing the elegance of a beautiful wedding celebration.

And from a wedding photography perspective? There is so much to love.

You've got gorgeous waterfront backdrops, boats in the marina, nearby grassy areas for portraits and the option to venture towards Mooloolaba Beach if the weather decides to cooperate.

It's particularly lovely for couples who want a wedding that feels elegant but still relaxed.

One of the things I always tell couples is that your wedding day doesn't need to be a massive production to be incredible.

You don't need to spend hours travelling around for photographs or fill every minute with activities.

Sometimes the most beautiful weddings are the ones where you can just be present.

Enjoy your people.

Have a laugh.

Get married.

And maybe spray some champagne around at the end of the night.

Sounds pretty perfect to me.

Penny & Gareth – Thank You for Having Me!

Penny and Gareth, thank you both so much for trusting me to capture your beautiful wedding day.

From the sweetest moments getting ready, to your gorgeous waterfront ceremony, our slightly windswept photography adventure and that epic champagne pop to finish things off, it really was such a wonderful celebration.

You two were an absolute pleasure to photograph, and I hope every time you look back through your wedding gallery, you're transported straight back to how it all felt.

The excitement.

The laughter.

The love.

And all those little moments in between.

Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness, adventures and plenty more reasons to pop a bottle of champagne.

What an epic day with epic people!

Lots of love,

Ange xx
