Mimi & Tahlia's Sunshine Beach Surf Club Wedding
There are wedding days, and then there's Mimi & Tahlia's wedding day.
I knew it the moment I arrived. You know when you walk into a room and the energy is just good? That was this day, from the very first photo to the very last song.
"Finding your forever person doesn't feel like fireworks, it feels like finally coming home."
That's exactly what it felt like to watch these two. Home.
Getting Ready: Two Brides, One Very Happy Photographer
Both brides got ready in the same spot, which made my job a breeze. No dashing between locations, no missing a moment. Just two people soaking up the morning together, with the bridal party buzzing around them.
And talk about a team behind the scenes! Sarah from By Sarah Jane did an incredible job with the hair and makeup. Everyone looked glowing, and everything was still holding strong hours later after tears, hugs and a whole lot of dancing.
These two were honestly the best to photograph. The bridal party was just as much fun, with laughing, teasing and champagne-fuelled chaos in the best way. Then came the big reveal moments: Mimi in her gorgeous gown from Madi Lane Bridal, and Tahlia looking absolutely sharp in her suit from The Suit Society. Bride and bride, two completely different looks, both so perfectly them. I knew we were in for the best day ever.
The Ceremony at Sunshine Beach Surf Club
Mimi & Tahlia held both their ceremony and reception at the Sunshine Beach Surf Club, and if you're hunting for a Noosa wedding venue, let me tell you why it works. The location is unreal. You've got the ocean right there, that golden coastal light and views that make every photo look like a postcard, plus the relaxed, no-fuss Sunshine Beach vibe that makes guests feel at ease the second they walk in. It's a Sunshine Beach wedding venue that does all the hard work for you.
The ceremony, led by the wonderful Crystal Maybury, was beautiful. I'll be honest: some of the best vows I've ever heard. There's something so special about watching two people who are clearly made for each other stand there and say "I do." You could feel it in the room. Tahlia's suit game was strong, and Mimi's grin as she walked down the aisle? Yeah, I was already in trouble. Even the guests who swore they weren't going to cry (you know who you are) were reaching for tissues.
Couple Portraits and That Sunset
We took the couple photos right in the surrounds of the venue, because why go anywhere else when you've got this backdrop? Then the sunset happened. An epic Noosa sunset, the kind where you quietly thank the universe for your job. Mimi's dress caught every bit of that golden light, and Tahlia's suit looked incredible against the ocean. Honestly, I could have photographed them against a brick wall and it would have been good, but a Sunshine Beach sunset didn't hurt. They just soaked it up, holding hands, laughing and being completely and utterly in love. Those are the images I'll be thinking about for a long time.
The Reception: Speeches, First Dance and Swifties
The reception was perfect. The styling from First Class Functions pulled the whole room together, and the flowers (also by First Class Functions) were gorgeous. The catering from the Surf Club kept everyone fed and happy, and the cake from Celebrate With Cake disappeared fast. Always a good sign.
Then came the speeches, full of laughs and happy tears, and the first dance, which was so sweet.
And then, the dance floor. With Paul from Rockin U Wild on the decks, it was banging. Truly. And a special mention to all the Swifties in the room, who sang the full, all-too-well 10-minute version at the top of their lungs. I've photographed a lot of dance floors, and I can confirm this one had every single person fully committed.
What an epic day. Mimi & Tahlia, thank you for letting me be part of it. xx
Digital and 35mm Film: The Best of Both
Mimi & Tahlia had a combination of digital and 35mm film for their day, and I love this pairing so much. The digital images capture everything crisp and bright, while the film frames have that soft, dreamy, grainy glow that makes a Sunshine Beach sunset look like a memory you've had forever. Plus there's a little thrill in not knowing exactly what you've got until the film comes back. If you're after a Noosa wedding photographer who can mix digital and film, I'd love to chat about adding it to your day.
