02/05/2026 • "When you find the person who feels like home, marrying them isn't the beginning of a new story — it's the best chapter of the one you've already been living together."

There are wedding days you photograph, and then there are wedding days that absolutely fill your cup to overflowing. Maddi & Matt's wedding at the stunning Goodwater Ridge in Maleny was unequivocally the latter. Set among the lush rolling green hills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, it was the kind of day where love was practically in the air.

Pull up a chair, pour yourself something warm, and let me take you right back to this incredible day.

The Boys

The morning kicked off with Matt and his groomsmen getting ready in one of the gorgeous on-site cabins you can book at Goodwater Ridge — and let me tell you, it was absolute comedy gold from the start.

Four grown men standing in a cabin, collectively baffled by the ancient and mysterious art of the bowtie. Matt, flanked by his three groomsmen, attempted approximately seven different times before someone finally cracked the code.

Once dressed though? Absolutely stunning. Classic black tuxedos that suited their timeless, elegant aesthetic perfectly. Dapper doesn't even begin to cover it.

The sweetest surprise of the morning came when Matt's parents arrived at the cabin. The timing was just perfect, and we were able to capture some truly beautiful pre-wedding family portraits — the kind of photos that end up framed above the mantelpiece for decades. There is something so quietly moving about a parent watching their child on the morning of their wedding day, and Matt's parents brought all of that energy in spades.

The Bride, The Vision, The Absolute Showstopper

Over in the bridal suite, Maddi and her girls were doing what bridesmaids do best — laughing, crying a little, and looking absolutely stunning thanks to the incredible teams at Madeline J Makeup and Ayloula Hair Design. Between the two of them, every single person in that room looked like they'd stepped off the pages of a bridal editorial.

And then there was the dress. Oh, the dress. Maddi wore it with such effortless grace and beauty — the kind of bride who makes you put the camera down for a split second just to take it all in. Absolutely breathtaking.

Because it was a little overcast and drizzly outside — very Sunshine Coast Hinterland of it, truly — we made the most of the beautiful indoor light for some of Maddi's solo portraits. Every single frame was stunning.

But the moment that stopped everyone in the room? The first look between Maddi and her dad. He turned around, saw his daughter in her wedding dress, and the look on his face said everything words never could. I feel so deeply privileged to have been trusted to capture that moment. It's the kind of photograph that belongs in a story told for generations.

About Goodwater Ridge, Maleny — A Sunshine Coast Hinterland Gem

Nestled in the rolling green hills of Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Goodwater Ridge is one of those wedding venues that genuinely takes your breath away the moment you arrive.

The property features beautifully appointed accommodation cabins perfect for your wedding party to get ready together — which, as we established above, adds a wonderful and delightfully chaotic energy to the morning. The landscaped grounds offer incredible photography locations without ever needing to leave the property: a gorgeous chapel, a serene fountain, sweeping greenery, and architectural details that work beautifully in every light.

The jewel of the venue is undoubtedly the stunning chapel, which gives a remarkable Middle Eastern architectural vibe — completely unique on the Sunshine Coast and utterly unforgettable in photographs.

If you're searching for a Maleny wedding venue that combines natural Hinterland beauty with something truly distinctive and elegant, Goodwater Ridge belongs at the very top of your list.

The Ceremony — Where it All Became Real

The ceremony was held inside the chapel, and the space was as show-stopping as ever.

It was officiated by the incredible Ceremonies by Bernadette, who brought exactly the right energy to Maddi & Matt's day — heartfelt, personal, and perfectly paced. Bernadette has such a gift for making a ceremony feel completely and uniquely yours, and this one was no exception. If you're planning a Sunshine Coast wedding and Bernadette isn't on your vendor list yet, stop and go fix that immediately.

Adding to the magic was the wonderful Cassidy Mackie, whose live music set the most beautiful tone as guests arrived and throughout the ceremony. There is simply nothing quite like live music at a wedding — it adds a warmth and electricity that no playlist can replicate.

Maddi & Matt exchanged private vows and when it came time for the rings, they each had their mum bring them forward.

Two mums. Two rings. Approximately zero dry eyes in the room.

Rather than breaking up the flow with signing in the middle of the ceremony, they shared their first kiss and walked straight back down the aisle as husband and wife. The signing happened after group photos, which gave everything such a wonderful, natural momentum. Smart move, these two.

Family, Friends & Stolen Moments

After the ceremony, we gathered everyone for family portraits and a big group photo outside the chapel. Herding guests for a group photo is a truly underappreciated art form, and I'm proud of my career in it.

Once the formals were done, I encouraged Maddi & Matt to simply be — to wander among their people, soak it all in, and let the afternoon wash over them. There is so much joy in those unscripted moments between ceremony and portraits.

All the while, I kept a very watchful eye on those clouds. Rain was forecast, and in the Hinterland, weather waits for no one.

Bridal Party & Couple Portraits — Zero Awkwardness, All Magic

Before the rain had any ideas, we moved into bridal party and couple portraits. Here's where I'll let you in on a little secret — Maddi & Matt told me beforehand they were nervous. Genuinely convinced they'd be awkward in front of the camera.

Look at the photos. Go on. I'll wait.

Not a single awkward frame. Not one.

Because the nerves disappeared the moment they were just looking at each other. That's the magic of real love in front of a camera, and it's something I never take for granted. Making my couples feel completely at ease and helping them look their absolute best is something I pour everything into.

We made full use of the extraordinary grounds — in front of the chapel, near the beautiful fountain, through the lush greenery surrounds. We didn't need to step a single foot off the property, and every frame felt like it belonged in a magazine.

The Reception — Where the Party Truly Began

As the golden hour light settled in, the celebrations moved to the reception, where Parma Street Food absolutely delivered.

Run by an incredible husband-and-wife team, Parma Street Food serves some of the finest Italian food on the Sunshine Coast — and I say this as someone lucky enough to have the spinach and ricotta ravioli, which was so deliciously good it genuinely made me rethink my entire approach to dinner parties. If you're not booking Parma Street Food for your wedding catering, I'm asking you why with my whole chest.

The speeches were warm, funny, and a little tearful in all the right ways — exactly as wedding speeches should be. The first dance was beautiful. And then the night shifted gear entirely.

Enter Cassidy Mackie, back for round two as the evening's DJ — and she absolutely set the room on fire. After bringing such beautiful live music energy to the ceremony, watching Cassidy transition seamlessly into DJ mode and own the dance floor was a joy to witness. The energy was electric, and I'm fairly certain the party went much longer than anyone planned.
