2 October 2026 | Alsahwa Estate, Sunshine Coast, Queensland
Some weddings are big, extravagant celebrations with hundreds of guests, a packed dance floor and enough events on the timeline to make your head spin. And then there are weddings like Michaela and Josh's.
Small, intimate, beautifully relaxed and completely centred around the things that actually matter. Love, family and getting married to your favourite person.
And can we just appreciate how lovely that is?
On 2 October 2026, Michaela and Josh celebrated their wedding at the stunning Alsahwa Estate on the Sunshine Coast, surrounded by their nearest and dearest. No unnecessary fuss, no complicated schedule, just a beautiful morning ceremony followed by a relaxed lunch reception.
As a Sunshine Coast wedding photographer, I absolutely love weddings like this. The ones where everyone can slow down, enjoy themselves and be completely present in the moment.
And honestly? These two nailed it.
A Little Wedding, A Whole Lot of Love
One of the sweetest things about Michaela and Josh's wedding was that their story wasn't just about two people becoming husband and wife.
They were already a family, with a beautiful little one sharing in their story. Their wedding was another chapter in a life they'd already begun building together.
“They weren't starting their family story that day. They were simply celebrating the beautiful one they'd already created.”
And I think there's something incredibly special about that.
Their day wasn't about putting on a show. It was about making a promise, celebrating their little family and having the people they love most there to witness it.
Sometimes the smallest weddings really do hold the biggest feelings.
Welcome Cocktails, Happy Guests & A Beautiful Morning Ceremony
My morning at Alsahwa Estate began with some candid photographs of guests arriving and enjoying their welcome cocktails.
Which, can we just say, is a pretty excellent way to kick off a wedding?
There was that lovely pre-ceremony atmosphere of everyone catching up, having a laugh and settling in for the celebrations. No frantic rushing around, just happy people enjoying a beautiful Queensland morning.
Before long, it was time for the main event!
Their ceremony was led by the wonderful Dan Ford Celebrant, who helped create a beautiful, heartfelt celebration that felt completely true to Michaela and Josh.
The weather was gorgeous, the setting was beautiful and the whole ceremony had that effortless, intimate feeling that makes smaller weddings so special.
With gorgeous wedding flowers by Huskia Creative, Michaela's beautiful dress from Sphere Bridal Gallery and hair and makeup by Nix Hair and Makeup, all the little details came together beautifully.
A few meaningful words, some very happy faces and two people making it official.
Honestly, what more could you want?
Wedding Photography at Alsahwa Estate — Palm Trees, Beautiful Grounds & Endless Photo Opportunities
After the ceremony, we headed off for some wedding portraits around the gorgeous grounds of Alsahwa Estate.
And if you've been looking at this Sunshine Coast wedding venue for your own day, you'll understand why photographers love it.
There are so many beautiful little corners to explore, with lush greenery, gorgeous open spaces and plenty of variety for your wedding photographs.
Of course, we couldn't skip one of the most iconic photo locations at Alsahwa Estate — the palm tree-lined driveway.
I mean, come on. It's practically begging for wedding photos.
Those beautiful palms create such a stunning backdrop, and there's something about the tropical surroundings that feels so effortlessly Queensland.
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings at venues like Alsahwa Estate is that you don't need to travel elsewhere to find beautiful portrait locations.
Everything is right there.
And for couples who would rather spend more time celebrating with their guests than disappearing for hours of photographs, that's a massive bonus.
My approach to wedding photography is always a mixture of candid moments and a little gentle direction when needed. So even if you consider yourselves awkward in front of the camera, I promise you don't need to magically become professional models on your wedding day.
That's my job to help with!
Michaela and Josh's portraits were exactly what their day called for. Relaxed, natural and full of those lovely little moments between two people who are very clearly happy to be married.
An Intimate Lunch Reception With Their Favourite People
Following their portraits, it was time to join everyone for a lovely lunch reception.
And this is where Michaela and Josh's wedding really showed how beautiful a smaller celebration can be.
There was no need for a huge production. Just their closest family and friends, good company and the opportunity to sit down and celebrate together.
Their reception was perfectly them.
A beautiful wedding cake by Tome, a few heartfelt speeches, plenty of happy faces and a room full of people who genuinely love these two.
There's something really lovely about an intimate wedding reception where everyone knows each other. Every guest is there for a reason, every conversation matters and the whole celebration feels that little bit more personal.
Before long, it was time for me to pack up my cameras and leave Michaela and Josh to enjoy the rest of their day.
Short, sweet and absolutely beautiful.
A Little Nostalgia — Their Wedding on 35mm Film
Now, something else that made Michaela and Josh's wedding extra special was that we also captured a selection of their day on 35mm film.
And I am absolutely loving incorporating film into my wedding photography lately.
There's just something about it.
The grain, the colours, the slightly imperfect and wonderfully nostalgic feeling. Film has this beautiful way of making photographs feel like memories before you've even had time to look back on them.
While digital photography captures all the beautiful details of your wedding day, 35mm film adds a completely different layer of storytelling.
It's especially lovely for those little in-between moments. The candid laughs, the quiet glances and the things happening when nobody is thinking about the camera.
Michaela and Josh now have a mixture of beautiful digital wedding photographs and timeless film images to remember their celebration.
35mm film photography is available as an optional add-on to Angela Brushe Photography wedding and portrait packages, starting from $250.
If you love that nostalgic, old-school film look, you can absolutely add a little of that magic to your own wedding day.
Planning a Small Wedding or Elopement at Alsahwa Estate?
If Michaela and Josh's wedding proves anything, it's that you don't need a twelve-hour celebration or hundreds of guests to have a truly beautiful wedding.
Sometimes all you need is a gorgeous venue, your favourite people and someone you can't wait to marry.
Whether you're planning a short morning ceremony, an intimate lunch reception, a micro wedding or a relaxed Sunshine Coast elopement, your photographs deserve just as much love and attention as those from a full-day wedding.
At Angela Brushe Photography, I offer flexible wedding photography packages for couples who want beautiful, candid and emotive photographs without feeling like they're spending their entire day posing.
My elopement and micro wedding photography packages start from $1,700, with two hours of coverage, unlimited edited images and sneak peeks within 24 hours.
And yes, you can add 35mm film too!
I also offer photography and videography packages for couples wanting to capture their day in both photos and video.
Whether you're getting married at Alsahwa Estate, somewhere in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Noosa, Brisbane or beyond, I'd love to help tell your story.
Thank You, Michaela & Josh!
Michaela and Josh, thank you both so much for having me along to capture such a beautiful little chapter in your story.
Your wedding was such a lovely reminder that the best celebrations aren't necessarily the biggest ones. They're the ones that feel the most like you.
Wishing you both and your gorgeous little family a lifetime of love, laughter and wonderful memories together.
Thank you for letting me capture a few of them. 🤍
